Wisconsin Badgers hot and spicy foods

badgers Origin of Wisconsin Badgers Team Nickname
Wisconsin was nicknamed the “Badger State” because of lead miners who first settled there in the 1820s and 1830s. Lacking winter shelter theses heaty individauals had to live like badgers in tunnels burrowed into hillsides.Badgers made their dens in burrors that they dug out

The University of Wisconsin–Madison AKA University of Wisconsin was founded when Wisconsin achieved statehood in 1848.

Badger Bucky Badger Mascot
The Bucky Badger mascot first appeared at the University of Wisconsin in 1889. An unnamed Wisconsin mascot appeared as a human-like cartoon figure in University of Wisconsin publications in the 1930s.

The Bucky Badger emblem, a scowling, strutting badger wearing a cardinal-and-white striped sweater, was designed by Art Evans in 1940.

Bucky’s official name, “Buckingham U. Badger” was chosen in a contest by students in 1949 but quickly shortened.

Live badgers were unsuccessfully introduced in 2003. One Eau Claire badger proved to be too fierce to be controlled and was retired to the nearby zoo.

For a brief period, the live badger was replaced with a live raccoon named “Regdab” (“badger” backwards).

Bucky often directs students to dance to the band’s music or pretends to pick fights with certain students or other team’s mascots. Bucky does pushups to match the score after each touchdown, field goal, or safety.

The seven students who portray Bucky Badger are all volunteers, and receive no scholarships or financial reimbursement. Tryouts include tests of dancing skills, suit expressiveness, working with props, and push-ups. Each August the The Bucky Team attends training camp. The Bucky Team performs throughout the year, including breaks and holidays, represents the university at athletic events, ceremonies, parades, festivals, weddings and funerals.
